45th Annual Running of the ARROYO SECO FREAKO

Thank you to everyone for your patience as it has taken months (and months) to get these results posted.

A total of 46 runners (35 men and 11 women) showed up on an almost perfect day to run in the 45th Annual Arroyo Seco Freako Microthon (Charles Voge Memorial Run) on April 1st, 2019. This was the inaugural year for a new route that will be used while they are pulling sediment out of the wash (closing the dam and the roads on the east side of the Arroyo). While the first man and the first woman both won their divisions easily, we had several very close finishes. Overall, everyone seemed to have a great time.

The race was won by the 2018 3rd place finisher, Mike Kerkman, in a time of 20:29. Since this is a new course, he now has the course record. Mike was followed almost a minute later by Peter Dixon, in a time of 21:26. Third place finisher Brendan Crill came in with a time of 21:41.

The first woman runner to finish, Shaunessey Grant, came in 11th place with a time of 25:11. Shaunessey was followed in second place by Madeleine Pascolini-Campbell, with a time of 26:42, for an overall finish of 16th. The third woman to cross the finish line was Amanda Gru (just like in 2018), with a time of 27:30, and overall she finished in 21st place.

Congratulations go to out to all of the participants. The full set of race photos will hopefully be posted depending on resolving some software issues. This was a fine turnout, especially given that the race was run on the Monday. We did have several close finishes, which made the race very exciting to watch.

It is always important to have a good crew of volunteers at the finish line, and we had a great crew. The finish crew recorded finish times, handed out finish cards, and collected them for all 46 participants who crossed the finish line.
A huge thanks to Sam Dolinar for being Race director on the day of the race, marking the course (and un-marking the course) as well as for calling out the finishing times, and compiling the results. Melora Larson helped before the race (managed registration). The additional finish line helpers included Curtis Jin, Jackie Sly, Bill Epping, Brian Hawkins, Jake Chesin and Lucien Froidevaux. All in all, it was a top-notch performance by the crew. Thanks!
